Non-destructive GPU node-based texturing – The 3DCoat Node System is introduced. No more limitations of classic pixel painting! Now you can create materials, masks, and effects using a visual editor (Node Editor). Any element, including rust intensity, base color, glossiness, or scratches, remains editable at any stage of your workflow. Change parameters and instantly observe the result on the 3D model in real time. The first video lesson on the basics of the new system is below , the rock texturing timelapse is here. Every parameter remains editable at any stage, with real-time previews directly on the 3D model.
High-performance GPU nodes – procedural effects, mathematical operations, and noise generators are dynamically compiled into optimized shaders and calculated directly on the graphics card. Under the hood of the new system, dynamic compilation of nodes into optimized shaders, based on NodeGraph Language (NGL), is working.
Node-based materials, masks, modifiers, filters – create procedural Smart Materials, realistic wear and dirt masks, geometry deformers, post-processing filters, and seamless volumetric textures. With nodes, you can create: Procedural Smart Materials ( NGMaterials ) that perfectly adapt to the curvature, shading (Ambient Occlusion), and other properties of your model; Procedural Masks ( NGMasks ) for generating realistic wear, dirt, scratches, etc.; Procedural Modifiers ( NGModifiers ) for procedural change of the shape or geometry of a model. In the code, they are often called “Deformers”; Procedural Filters ( NGFilters ), which store procedural post-processing filters. Unlike materials, which create new textures from scratch, filters take existing layer or object data, modify it, and return it.
30 material channels – the updated physically based material system supports 30 channels, including advanced light interaction and refraction properties for creating more realistic and physically complex surfaces. The 3DCoat render system supports an advanced physically based material (PBR/PBM) model. It includes not only standard channels butalso introduces a wide range of additional material channels, enabling the creation of physically complex materials with advanced light interaction and refraction effects to create the most realistic surfaces possible.The total number of all supported channels is 30. You can read more about them in the documentation, in the PBM Channels section.
Procedural material and mask library – We've also created a comprehensive library of built-in materials across a wide range of categories. It includes new and all legacy default Smart Materials, fully converted to the new node-based system. Fabric materials were 3D scanned by SCANIMAT. A library of built-in masks is also included. Simply select or create a material and apply any mask with a single click.
Interactive node transform gizmo – Added the new inGizmoTransform node, which connects to the UVWTexture, TriPlanar, and FragCoord nodes to control position, rotation, and scaling of the texture.
LWO3 import – 3DCoat now supports importing LWO3 files created in LightWave 3D.
GLB export – GLB export has been added to improve integration with Blender and other applications supporting the format.
Multiple other fixes, workflow improvements, and performance optimizations have also been implemented.
